Georgetown Police responded to a shoplifting call on Sunday the 27th at 7:15 p.m. The suspect, 41-year-old Carla Renee Hicks had already been stopped by Walmart loss prevention for allegedly passing all points of sale with merchandise totaling $35.00. The suspect was subsequently placed in custody and arrested.
What the officers realized after investigating further is that they actually had apprehended Carla Renee Hicks (AKA) Gregorian. Mrs. Gregorian was actually wanted on a Scott County Warrant for Robbery in the first degree. Robbery in the first is a very serious charge:
515.020 Robbery in the first degree.(1) A person is guilty of robbery in the first degree when, in the course of committing theft, he uses or threatens the immediate use of physical force upon another person with intent to accomplish the theft and when he: (a) Causes physical injury to any person who is not a participant in the crime; or (b) Is armed with a deadly weapon; or (c) Uses or threatens the immediate use of a dangerous instrument upon any person who is not a participant in the crime.
This charge is classified as a Class B felony and could carry a lengthy prison sentence:
For a Class B felony, not less than ten (10) years nor more than twenty (20) years
The Warrant alleges that Mrs. Gregorian had a violent confrontation where she used physical force to steal the victim's wallet. It also states that Mrs. Gregorian dragged the victim through a doorway causing scrapes on the arms that were observed to be bleeding. The defendant then fled the scene with the victim's wallet.
The defendant is being held at the Scott County Detention Center on $10,000 bond for the Shoplifting charge and no bond on the Robbery charge, according to court records. She is to appear back in front of Judge Phelps on February 5th at 1:30 p.m.
