Georgetown Woman Charged with Thefts Involving Firearm

A 23-year-old Georgetown woman, Kayla Desha Dawson, has been arrested and charged with multiple thefts. In all, she faces three counts of Theft by unlawful taking -- Kentucky Revised Statute 514.030-- and all three are Class D felonies. The value of the items taken, one being a firearm, enhance the charges from a Class A misdemeanor to a felony.

The first Uniform Citation states that the first violation date was June 11, 2012, but the arrest date was October 31st, The arrest location is listed as the Georgetown Police headquarters. Presumably, she turned herself into police willingly. The citation also states that the items stolen exceeded $5,000.

According to the Citation the defendant confessed to the crime on audio and video (also stating that she "knew it was wrong").

The second Uniform Citation states that the other theft was committed on October 1st at a different location. She also confessed to this theft and gave detailed information into how she took the items without permission.

The stolen items were, according to police information, sold to different people and businesses; as admitted to by the defendant.

The defendant is currently out on $5,000 bond, according to Scott County Detention Center records, pending a court hearing scheduled for December 4th.
