Local Man Arrested for Selling Heroin

The Scott County Sheriff's Office served a warrant for 34-year-old Robert Leroy Payton - who resides on the 200 block of Potomac Drive - for two counts of Trafficking in Controlled Substance (Heroin) in the 1st Degree (charges are very serious, Class C felonies). Scott County Detention Center records show the defendant's intake date as December 31st at 2:39 p.m. But, the SCSO Uniform Citation states that the arrest was on January 1st at 11:43 a.m.

The Warrant of Arrest was originally generated by the Scott Circuit Court on August 6th 2012 but shows that it was executed (suspect arrested) on September 6th of 2012. However, the SCSO received it on January 1st 2013. No other information regarding this anomaly was available at this time.

The most detailed account of the case is located in the Grand Jury Indictment dated August 3rd 2012. The defendant allegedly sold a fairly large amount of Heroin - two grams - on two separate occasions to a confidential informant. The Indictment also states that the defendant was previously convicted of the same charge in 2005.

Jail records show the defendant has been booked into custody a total of 17 times.

The defendant is being held on $20,000 bond - which has been reduced to 10%. There's a future court date set for February 4th at 9:00 a.m.
