Georgetown National Guard Soldier Arrested for Going AWOL


A local Georgetown resident, Austin Dean Southworth, a member of The Kentucky National Guard has been arrested for being Absent without leave. According to a Scott County Sheriff Uniform Citation the defendant was served a warrant and arrested on October 17 at 10.00 a.m.

The exact violation of KRS (Kentucky Revised Statute) 35.462 reads as follows:
35.462 Missing movement. Any person subject to this code who through neglect or design misses the movement of a ship, aircraft or unit with which he is required in the course of duty to move shall be punished as a court-martial directs.
The defendant is currently being held at the Scott County Detention Center with no bond. The listed affiliated agency, according to jail records, is the US Military - JAG Corps. It's assumed that the defendant is awaiting transport to the proper military authorities.
