Updated: Local Georgetown Business Burglarized in Bizarre Incident

There's some good news involving this crime. The owner of Bumper 2 Bumper Auto Care, Catrina Adkins, has contacted us to update the status of their case. The man responsible for the crimes committed , 43-year-old Anthony Delmoro, was apprehended by Lexington authorities on January 17, 2013 and has plead guilty to the charges. He is in custody at the Fayette County Detention Center awaiting sentencing on May 24th.                                          

A local Georgetown business was burglarized and had a vehicle stolen early Thursday morning. The business, Bumper 2 Bumper Auto Care (located on North Water Street), had serviced the vehicle and it was locked inside the shop waiting on payment from the owner.

In the predawn hours Thursday morning the alarm sounded and Georgetown Police responded to the scene to find the service door of the business had been smashed through from the inside out and the owners identified that an older model SUV was missing.

Here's where the story takes a twist and turn. In an article published by the local Lexington NBC affiliate WLEX, LEX 18; We discover that a vehicle possibly matching the description of the vehicle stolen in Georgetown was found in flames on Mt. Horeb Road near the intersection of Newtown Pike and Kentucky State Road 1973.

An officer heading to another call spotted an SUV burning along a rural road in Lexington early Thursday, and investigators say it matches the general description of a vehicle stolen from a Georgetown shop earlier in the morning.
Investigators say the SUV went through a fence and into the guard rail along Mt. Horab Road, then burst into flames. The passing officer spotted the burning vehicle around 3:45 a.m. The driver was nowhere to be found.
Police say the SUV is similar to a vehicle that a burglar drove through the garage door of Bumper 2 Bumper Auto Care in Georgetown earlier in the morning, but they have not determined if it is the same SUV.
Police continue to investigate and search for the driver.

Georgetown, Kentucky - Crime Blog spoke with the owner of Bumper 2 Bumper Auto Care, Katrina Adkins, this morning and she said that the burglar(s) first "tried prying open" the service door but failed. But then "broke through the window" to gain access to the building and took the keys from "the invoice" which was found "lying on the floor". The robber(s) also "ran into a tree" as the stolen vehicle exited the scene.

Mrs. Adkins went on to say that the vehicle was a "1997 Suburban" and that the Georgetown Police Department "responded in one minute, twenty seconds" to the burglary alarm.
