Stamping Ground Man Charged with DUI After Striking Pedestrian















The Scott County Sheriff's Office has arrested and charged Stamping Ground resident George M. Byers in connection with a traffic accident involving a pedestrian. The incident occurred, approximately, at the corner of Stamping Ground Road and Great Crossing Park Road in Scott County. The pedestrian, Dazine Young, had "serious physical injury" according to law enforcement documents.

An elderly man was sent to the hospital in Scott County late Wednesday morning after being hit by what authorities say was a drunk driver.The incident happened just before noon near Stamping Ground Park in Georgetown. Scott County officials say 24-year old George Byers was behind the wheel when he struck Dazine Young, who officials say was walking along the shoulder of the road when Byers struck him.Officials say Young was knocked unconscious, and there is no word yet on his condition.Byers was arrested and charged with driving while under the influence and second-degree assault.
A Scott County Sheriff's Office Uniform Citation obtained by Georgetown, Kentucky - Crime Blog reveals more detail into the incident. Apparently the suspect told the arresting Deputy that "he had taken 4 Lorazepam pills". The Deputy performed a SFST (Standard Field Sobriety Test), in which he subsequently failed. After further investigation into the wreck the Deputy then found the suspect had acted in "a wanton manner considering the speed and use of pills".









In all, the suspect was charged with Operating a motor vehicle...while under the influence of...a controlled substance (Kentucky Statute 189.010 5a) and Assault in the second degree (Kentucky Statute 508.020).

The defendant was released today from the Scott County Detention Center at 1:50 p.m. on Surety Bond according to Detention Center officials.
